I used package taco seasoning mix for years, as I assume you did as well. Maybe, like me, you also found yourself at a friend’s for dinner and had the best tacos ever.
You were then asking them why their tacos were so amazing.
“We make our own seasoning. It’s so easy” was their answer.
Make my own? I had never thought of it before. They told me the basics of their seasoning and I tweaked it, as I do.
These are spices that I always have in my house, so it is never a problem. Plus then I get to make things as spicy as I would like.
I do have some optional items in the list too, they are not necessary but can add a pop of flavor.
Homemade Taco Seasoning
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1.5 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika (I prefer smoked paprika)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/5 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Place all ingredients in an air-tight container and shake well until combined.
This will stay in your pantry for months, but you won’t have it around for that long.
